With today's digital technology it’s usually unnecessary to physically restore photographs. But if your physical
prints have historical value, we do recommend stabilization treatment to prevent further damage.
To stabilize your prints we carefully remove the photographs from
old albums – where acid and chemicals are eating away at the
emulsion – remove dirt and mold with special solutions and transfer
them to archival albums where they can be safely stored for many
more decades.
Many photographs are in such bad condition that the restoration process is impossible or may damage the photographs further. In this case, we stop
immediately.
When dealing with valuable photographs with important historical
value, Limelight works with DC based photographic conservator Manna Hainsmith.
